ELASTIC SCAFFOLD AT AMY JOHNSON AVENUE
N/A

Elastic Scaffold is an organic, unlevelled, fragile artwork made from the collection of root fragments uplifted by Cyclone Marcus. Thinking through the revealed conduits and exposed infrastructure post-cyclone, this work speaks of circumnavigating human bodies; my body in the subterranean world of trees; their rhizomatic maze.

Artist Statement: As a current CDU postgraduate student, my research explores the intersection between human and nature, or human and non-human. Starting with the premise that a natural disaster is rather, a human induced disaster due to the human impact of climate change and global warming, I use the language of civic construction juxtaposed against the natural.

Investigating how localised weather born disasters, and disasters such as epidemics affect our location in place, or our place identity, becomes an important exploration of the work. The artifact connects with the performative element captured through film, but has other lives, such as in this exhibition where it has lent itself to a still life setting.
