Serah Pocock

WILD LIFE
$1,200

I have always loved Australian wildlife, particularly the reptiles. I remember from an early age my Dad would pick up all sorts of plants and animals to show and to teach my brothers and I about what they were and how to handle them. This piece is one of the lessons I learnt back then about about ‘everything has to eat.’ This helped me a lot because I would get sad about animals having to die for food. Both for our pot or to other animals.

Wood, stain, paint
122cm high

Artist Statement: My name is Serah and I am 36 years old. I was born and raised in Darwin and have always had an interest in art of all mediums. From a young age my parents have encouraged my imagination and love of art. Mum was born in Victoria and my Dad was born in Darwin. Mum met Dad who was a fisherman from the Kakadu coast. They were engaged after only 3 days of meeting, and are still married today. My love of our Australian plants and wildlife came from them. Mum being a amazing green thumb and Dad with his indigenous knowledge of wildlife and growing up in the bush. The Northern Territory is a big part of who I am and I feel a great love and connection to country.
