FAMILY PORTRAIT
$5,000

‘Family Portrait,’ features the artist’s style and technique in drawing attention to flowers to portray an embedded idea; in this work, flowers were used to depict each family member’s character through imageries. On this artwork, a subtly embossed outline of family is shown, hence the title. The imaginary colours used instead of the actual colours of the flowers signify the preferences, symbolism, and message of the creation. Thus, the violet poincianas reflects the regal stance of a close-knit family that is acknowledged by their peers and community. The painted blue peace lilies positioned on the centre along with the embossed silhouette of the head of the family highlight the father’s desire to emphasise order and harmoniousness within the household. The blue sampaguitas represent the young boys’ status and love for freedom. While the poinsettia and dendrobium in shades of pink reflect the mother’s love and compassion. The shade of pink likewise stands for the presence of a little girl in the family and her rosy future. All in all, by looking at the flower portraits one may also get to know the family and its members through the colours and metaphors suggested by the featured blossoms.
