SUNSET IN THE SANDS – NIGHTCLIFF SUNSET STUDY #2

“Sunset In The Sands” – Nightcliff Sunset Study #2.
This soft pastel painting is my Nightcliff sunset study #2. From my own photo images 22/06/2022 and 19/11/2019 composites. We went for an early evening walk and I was enjoying the ripple patterns of the sand and the water in the low tide shallows. Both the brightly sparkling, as well as the shadowed patterns in the wet sands.

Admin Statement: Let me introduce myself… my name is Catherine, but most people call me Cathie.

I’m a self taught artist who began my journey with soft pastels since early 2021. I’ve always been interested in a creative career from an early age, however my full time path went in a varied direction. When the global pandemic seemed to stop the world in its tracks, I decided life’s just too short to not follow my passions!

I’ve been privileged to have undertaken workshops from highly acclaimed Australian Master Pastellists, who are recognised internationally. But importantly, I also continue to observe and learn daily.

As a family, we came to Darwin in 1995. We planned a short few years here, but it just quietly seeps into your bloodstream and here I am 29 years later, still living in the Northern Territory. I breathe deeper here…

Living in this larger than life part of the world, helps me to have a unique Top End view on my country, as I see it from a global perspective as well as locally. When I travel this land we call home, the diversity and richness of her colours, her lights and air are always intriguing, if not sometimes overwhelming…

I am constantly inspired to create new works of art that reflect this beauty. I want to continue exploring the diversity of life’s captured images and its major and minor patterns. It’s moments of symphony – major or minor! This is happening through varied mediums, but predominantly soft pastels, pen and graphite and watercolours.
