Artist Statement: Anamika Gurung is a Australia-based artist raised in Kathmandu, Nepal, and Chicago, IL. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Studio Arts from Biola University, CA (2018) with an emphasis on painting & drawing.
“My work revolves around portraiture and the human figure. I am fascinated by this space in which body, soul, and spirit exist in unity and disunity. The artwork dances between realism and surrealism as I explore what it means to be human: physical, cognitive, emotional, relational, and spiritual beings. Constantly growing, constantly changing, we make marks on the seen and unseen, as they make marks on us.”
