Alex Clunies-Ross

TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON
$2,300

This 360-degree sculpture depicts the life stages of the Lotus Seed pod, emerging from a pond base.

It is intended to serve as a metaphor for our own life stages – sometimes we may be flowering or on the verge of realising our potential or we may be selflessly sowing back into the world around us, possibly even being depleted in the processes. All of these stages are an important and essential part of the cycle and are beautiful in their own unique way.

A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to get, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away.

Wood sculpture – mixed hardwood, stainless steel, copper
600mm (W) x 500mm (L) x 600mm (H)

Artist Statement: Alex is a Darwin based wood sculpture and recently completed his first solo exhibition, Reclaimed Territory, at Darwin Visual Arts in June and July 2024.

Alex enjoys the process of revealing beauty out of discarded timber, sourced from the greater Darwin area. He draws inspiration from natural elements around us and seeks to use these as a metaphor for exploring deeper life meaning.

He has been generously mentored by an accomplished sculpture and is otherwise self-taught.
